About Circle Logistics
Circle Logistics is a fast-growing freight brokerage operating at scale across the United States. Like all brokerages, Circle's business runs on relationships, with shippers, with carriers, and accuracy. Behind the scenes, a carrier sales team manages high volumes of inbound and outbound calls, rate negotiations, booking confirmations, and compliance checks. It's a phone-heavy business. And for a long time, that's just how freight worked.
Opportunity
Freight brokerage has traditionally operated as a phone-heavy business, but the communication channels were underutilized. Sales representatives spent most of their day exchanging routine data: load details, rate confirmations, and compliance checks. This transactional focus left minimal capacity for relationship-building activities that drive sustainable growth.
At scale, operational constraints became apparent. Peak volumes stretched teams thin. Negotiation consistency varied between representatives. Carrier frustration grew with extended hold times. Manual fraud screening struggled to keep pace with evolving threats.
"Carriers don't want to use the phone the way they used to," the team recognized. The traditional answer, hire more reps, hit the phones harder, wasn't sustainable. The phone needed to become a relationship tool, not a data exchange mechanism.
Solution
Circle partnered with HappyRobot to deploy AI voice agents deeply integrated with their TMS (Transport Pro), and Highway. The agents handle the full carrier interaction flow, presenting load information, negotiating rates, confirming bookings, and running fraud checks, while feeding every data point back into Circle's systems in real time.
The approach was deliberate. Rather than chasing edge cases, the team focused on the 99% of common interactions first. The carrier experience was kept fast and frictionless. Fraud vetting was made unobtrusive by pulling compliance data automatically in the background, invisible to the carrier and instant for the team.
What started two years ago as an inbound carrier sales pilot has grown into a full quote-to-cash automation strategy spanning multiple departments. Circle's dedicated AI team drove that expansion by mastering the integrations that make AI effective and building deep API connections across its entire tech stack.
Impact
The transformation hasn't eliminated jobs; it's redefined them. Employees freed from transactional volume now focus on strategic, high-value work. Carrier profiles improve with every interaction through unique data capture. New revenue sources have been unlocked. And the automation rate keeps climbing.
Circle's leadership views AI investment not as optional but as a competitive requirement. With results to back it up, they've established themselves as the clear frontrunner in applied AI for freight brokerage, and the ideas haven't slowed. If anything, they're accelerating faster.
What's Next
Circle set out to prove that AI could work in freight. Two years in, that question is settled. Now the focus is on how far it can go, more use cases, more departments, more of the business running on automation they built themselves.
